The Valley Forge Dance School was founded in 1973 by Sharon Atkinson to give local dance students a chance to perform, and bring cultural events to the Valley Forge community. In 1980, Mrs. "A" was able to establish the Valley Forge Dance Theatre as a non-profit organization to further her mission.
For 17 years, the V.F. Dance Theatre performed in over 100 total shows before thousands at the local Valley Forge Music Fair, and its sister theatre, the Westbury Music Fair, on Long Island, NY.
Maria Jacobs, who had performed with the VFDT, bought the school from Mrs. Atkinson, upon her retirement in September 2003. On 8/1/2004 the dance studio's King of Prussia location was struck by lightning and destroyed. But the show went on at its new performing venue: The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA - a 100 year old opera house that had hosted Mary Pickford, Houdini, and the "Blob. "
The school is now back in its rebuilt space on Beidler Road in King of Prussia, looking
forward to another 30 years of dance!
